Most might not consider the photo to the Right to be so appealing, however having spent a month in Italy at one point in my life I have acquired the taste for the shute. Its a little out of the way to get to the small Italian deli but I dont mind going out of the way for some good eats.

Its a natural reflex for me when I am in the Italian Deli to go for the shute. It is about the only cold meal that I enjoy. However with that said I have acquired the taste for this odd meal over time.

Now to get back on track I will try to relate this to Steelhead a specimen thats behavior is often as odd and unpredictable as Mr.Meniscus behavior. What makes the chromer's crunch on those too big to be true tube fly? I am talking about 5 inch plus tubes? My opinion is one that it reminds them instinctually of something from a time long ago. Manny of these tubes remind them of food from the Ocean, Squid Shrip etc .

So next time you find yourself getting ready for a trip and finalizing your fly box try and think a little bit outside of the box.

Happy Mr.Meniscus

Mr.Meniscus is very happy to announce Jack Skelley will be doing a fly tying demo free of charge at Tight Lines Fly Shop in Pine Brook NJ. I usually wake up early much earlier then I would like. When I find myself rising at the ungodly hour(not to fish) I have been start my day with a menthol cigarettes and a rather large coffee. Some time shortly after that I sit down at the vise and whip out some flys. The focus always seems to shift from androgynous fish to trout to Strippers to warm water fish.

This past weekends focus as I sat at the Yaks house was blonds.. stacked blonds. So I sat in between cigarettes and tied Kelly Galloups rendition of a joe brooks classic.

So we find it fitting that this Sundays session brings you the stacked blond.

Big plan from the big man...

I just bought the book cripples and spinner from Kelly G at the Slide Inn. Now looking back at the fable or story I wonder did Noah have a hidden agenda? Was Noah a fly tyer? With two of every animal one could have quite the diverse fly tying shop. If one were going to the international fly tying symposium in Somerset NJ you would surely stop by Noah booth.

I am sure if Noah did have a booth two of every animal that would still not be good enough for some. Flytiers are a sick bunch what can I say allot of good people with the good OCD. Having the last two Canadian Goats on earth would not be good enough if the tips on the Canadian Goat hair were broken.

Recently I purchased a silver fox hide on ebay from a trapper in the mid west. It cost me $70 fucking bucks because it was supposedly a "winter grade" hide...

However when I received the hide it did not look like the image above. The hair was too short and the foxes leggs were not included with the hide and I ended up returning the hide. Instead I purchased some Canadian goat with broken tips. I bought some white and black haired CG when I told my friend I got some black CG he said Canadian Goat is good but you really a need black bear cub hide.

Chocolate and Cheese

In 9-27-94 Ween released there 4th album Chocolate and Cheese. The aforementioned album was dedicated to John Candy and was coincidently they year John Candy passed away. Every time I think of John Candy I recall the move Uncle Buck and get a laugh out of John Candy in the role of Uncle Buck. The fly above coincidently is called Lucky Buck and has no relation to Uncle Buck or John Candy that I know of. It is a poor at best attempt at the classic pattern Bob McCormick invented years ago. It has been tied on a silver hook and has silver ribbing as I had to substitute a silver hook for the gold hook the pattern calls for. Rob has reinvented this fly as of late so to speak..

Come Hell or High water II

Well I eventually made it up to Pulaski NY after a nine hour car ride. If I had known traffic would have been this bad I could have driven to Canada to fish for Salmon... but as they say hindsight is 20/20. As I drove home very happy having only moment earlier hooking and landing a 27inch long steelhead with a 17 inch girth I begin to think what a truly crazy weekend it was indeed. The nine hour trip up only to be met by high water cold weather and lack of sun? I begin to think just how crazy life is and thought would I do it all again?

Face the traffic miles of walking cold weather snow rain etc.. for a split second? I thought I would do it all again without a doubt if I knew it was going to end as successful. If I had the guarantee of such a beautiful fish using traditional Spey fishing tactics.

Only then did I realize for that split second that I was exhausted hungry and weathered from the elements and momentarily not thinking soundly. The true beauty the reason that I deal with the traffic weather lack of sleep is because there is NO guarantee that you will be successful.

Come Hell or high water

I guess you could say that I am stubborn but my mind was already made up. I decided last weekend that come hell or high water I was gonna leave Jersey City early Friday to break the Spey rod and hit the Salmon River in Pulaski.

Fast forward to a week later and here is the update:

The Salmon River have gone from 350 CFS(cubic feet a second) to 2300 CFS. That means that I will basically be doing a lot of fishing from the bank … not a big issue. It is supposed to rain and they have received 2 inches of rain in the last 24hrs not a real issue as I don't mind fishing in the rain however the forecast has now changed from rain to snow. LoL can I make this stuff up?

I plan on having a good weekend and will plan on keeping people updated given I don't drown
